Professional Media Practice - Event

Poster Presentation:

In to The Future Event Evaluation:

Outline public presentation of Professional Media Practice Portfolio and Poster

My portfolio is set up on Blogspot and includes all of my professional media practice work along side posts of personal interests of mine, which is updated every now and then. On my blog I have a page that has my professional media practice portfolio as well as a page that showcases any previous work I have done during my modules and a CV.

During the day of the In to the Future Event I presented my professional practice poster to students, members of the public that were at the event and also to some media professionals. They all gave me constructive feedback, which was useful to me.

Identify your contribution to group planning for event organisation

I was part of the front of house team for the event and I also contributed to developing ideas for the role and what the role would consist of.
I devised ideas on how the day would go about and what specific roles of being part of front of house would include. For example how some of us may need name badges in case any of the visitors wanted to come up to us for help, how there should be a clear registration desk and sign for the visitors to know where they are going and how everyone would each have a role within the role.

As front of house is a role that is done on the actual day, I used my initiative to help with promotion and spread the event across to Twitter.

Evaluate your contribution to the successful running of the day

On the event day with front of house I had the role of escorting the guests to and from rooms around the building. I was also at helping hand if any of the guests wanted to go to the toilet or give directions to where lunch would be taking place. I was happy with this role as I have the previous experience of being an Usher for a film festival event and the role was particularly similar.

In terms of the week running up the event, there was a meeting for the front of house team where the discussion of people’s places and roles for the day would be. However I was unable to make this because of work. Though I made sure to catch up with what needed to be done and what I was doing through emails and regular checking of social media for any updates.
Overall I believe that I carried out the role and process effectively as I could’ve. Although there were some mis communications at the start of the day, the event as a whole was successful.
