Enterprise MED6101

My Idea:
My Enterprise Idea is to launch myself as a Freelance Radio Presenter. Currently I am studying Media and Communications Specialising in Radio Production.
The reason why I have chosen this a my idea is because after university my goal is to land a job as a presenter on BBC Radio 1XTRA. I particularly want to work with this station because I am passionat about the music that they play on the station and also I am passionate about Afrobeats and this is something they do not necessarily play a lot of on the station. With this I believe that I can create space in the market as a presenter.
Alongside wanting to work for BBC 1XTRA, I am also interested in working as a freelance presenter in other stations such as KISS FM, Capital XTRA and Reprezent Radio.

As a freelance radio presenter I will be providing services that enables the station to fulfil its role such as my passion for music, a bubbly personality and the drive to better the station and bring in many listeners.
As a freelance radio presenter and aiming to work for BBC 1xtra which is in London , my services will be based in London. Although I am hoping to expand my profile and my audience in the future and hopefully do TV Presenter in America or work within the entertainment or music industry.
My overall aim is to use my entrepreneural skills as a platform to build and learn skills of independence, researching, networking and knowledge which is needed to put my idea in practice.

So far, to enhance my profile in working with BBC 1xtra, I have recently been part of their BBC 1xtra Open Studios in Birmingham where I had the chance to create a 30min demo with the help of their producers. I also had the opportunity to join a presenter on their station (Sarah Jane Crawford),  live on her show.

Audience Research:
My main target audiences who will be using my services are station managers and producers of BBC 1xtra. The ways in which I would be able to to reach out to them will be though me creating a following and platform for myself. For example I will be sending out my demos to their producers, I will be putting myself and my work out there but also networking on social media, for example Twitter, Facebook, Soundcloud, Instagram. I will also be staying in contact with the emails that  I receive through networking to keep a relaitionship and estalish a rapport with these industry professionals.

Evaluating My Idea:
I am fully aware that launching myself as a freelance radio presenter is going to be difficult as there is loads of competition out there and many other people are aiming to get and go into the entertainment industry. A weekness to this apiriation and idea is that it demands a lot of devotion and attention, I would need to live and breathe being a presenter, for example thoroughly research what exactly I aim to go into, gaining hands on experience – doing work experience, co-hosting and shadowing, I will need to know what my role entails and I will need to get creative, for example make a demo, edit it, do interviews, make a logo/brand/profile for myself.
Although a strength is that I have already started this process and additionally I have the help of my Media and Communications Degree and tutors to help guide me in the correct direction and receive critical feedback. I have all the resources needed to enable me to get where I want to get to. For example the equipment, studio time and contacts.

My Next Steps:
I have decided to devise a plan on how I am going to launch myself as a Freelance Entrepreneurial Presenter:
  • Formulate a clear 5 year plan
  • Create a logo/brand/profile for myself
  • Create a business card
  • Go to networking events
  • Begin creating content for my brand
  • Contact Radio Producers

Feedback:

Feedback is a way of development and progress. In my opinion feedback is also essential because it gives me the chance to listen to, and understand what areas I could improve within my self and my future business. As a brand and business I believe that it is crucial to reflex and look for areas of improvement.
